Business Phones – 3CX and VoIP

old-phoneFor the past 50 years businesses have been using conventional PBX business phones which require separate networks for voice and data communications. But with the new VoIP telephony revolution, businesses are quickly migrating to VoIP PBX systems, which offer the huge advantage of converging data and voice networks.

VoIP, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, is basically the transmission of voice traffic over IP-based networks. Initially designed for data networking, the Internet Protocol (IP) was adapted to voice networking following its successful positioning as the global standard for data networking.

With VoIP, business phones are not limited to making and receiving calls through the IP network, traditional phone lines can be used to guarantee a higher call quality and availability. With the use of a VoIP gateway incoming PSTN/telephone lines can be converted to VoIP/SIP. This way the VoIP gateway allows the user to receive and place calls on the regular telephony network.

VoIP PBX systems provide mobility to employees, flexibility when a business expands as they are much easier to manage than the traditional PBX, and can also considerably reduce telephony administration costs.

Regardless of your business size, Northern Computer can provide complete business phones system, allowing you to connect with your customers, streamline business and reduce communication costs. We have simple solutions for any size installation and our technicians are fully trained in not only the installation of VoIP business phones but also can easily fine tune hardware and software to work just the way you like.

  • Do you want a different Auto Attendant for during and after business hours?
  • How many multiple sites or remote users will need to connect to the phone system?
  • Do you know where information for your Internet Service Provider and Phone Carrier is?
  • How many mobile phones and/or softphones do you want to integrate with your phone system?
  • What is your call volume, number of calls, number of transfers, is paging used?
  • Need Ring groups – have more people available to answer than people calling in.
  • Need Call Queues – have more people calling in than people available to answer.
  • Do you have a closet to mount the phone system with power within 6 feet?
  • Do you want to integrate your phone system with Outlook or other CRM program?
  • Do you require special phones such as for conference, guest or paging?
  • How many phones require headsets integrated with the handset?

Business Phones – Building a Call Flow

Here is an example call flow.
business phones call flow
In this call flow all after hours calls will be directed to a separate Auto Attendant and voicemail left, depending on department selected.

From 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday calls to sales will ring to (Sales x204) and (Sales x205), if they don’t answer, it will leave a voicemail for (Sales Mgr x201). Calls to Support will go to (Support x203), and general customer service calls will go to (Shipping x202). General flow shown at right.

Using the example above, sketch out your desired call flow.
